Jeg har bestått Bergenstesten!

Jeg har bestått Bergenstesten! = I have passed the Bergenstest (click here for more info on what this test is about)!
On Friday I woke up and my email box had a couple of emails. One of them was a link to check the Bergenstest result. It felt like someone had kicked me in the stomach. I ran half naked to the computer and crossed my fingers while I turned it on and reached the right page.

‘Bestått’ means ‘Passed’. Yaaaaay! What a relief!
There are 3 possible results: ‘fail’, ‘pass’ and ‘good pass’. You must pass all the parts of the test in order to pass it. To fail one of the parts is worst it can happen.
This means that now I have a written proof that my level of Norwegian is equivalent to the B2 level (upper intermediate).
  • Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialization.
  • Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party.
  • Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

This is the level of Norwegian required to apply to university in Norway. Now I can submit all my documentation from Portugal in order to transfer my high school grades into the Norwegian system. Exciting!

This test is a real challenge and I’m glad that I don’t need to think about it for a long while.
